Lift Drooping Mouth Corners

Drooping Mouth Corners

Drooping mouth corners tend to give your face a sad and dissatisfied expression. Drooping mouth corners are often caused by sagging of the skin on the cheek and jaws and that, as a consequence, is slowly pulled down by gravity. The same forces will pull down the corners of your lips.

Treatment 1: We can correct this using dermal fillers to strengthen both the skin and the connective tissue in the affected areas.
Effect: This straightens and lifts the corners of the mouth and gives your face its natural, friendly and smooth expression.

Treatment 2: Sometimes an increased muscle activity of the muscles in the chin is playing a role in causing drooping mouth, in which case treatment with a muscle relaxant can be appointed.
Effect: By reducing the increased muscle activity the mouth gets its neutral position back.

A combination of both treatments often gives the best results.

Marionette Lines

The lines that run straight downwards from the corners of your mouth are called marionette lines. Looking in a mirror you may find these lines give your face an unhappy, severe and dissatisfied expression. They make you look much older than you feel. They are caused by a loss of firmness in the skin surrounding the corners of the mouth, giving free space to the forces of gravity.

Treatment: The perfect way to smooth these lines is to use an appropriate dermal filler. Depending on the depth of the lines your physician will use a thin or slightly thicker gel. If your lines are relatively deep he may need to treat you more than once. During the actual treatment the gel is injected just under the skin, giving your face a smoother, friendlier expression.

Effect: This will only take a few minutes, but the result will last for 12 to 18 months.

Result: We often notice that the corners of the mouth are actually pulled down too. If this is the case, we recommend to lift them slightly and also lift the entire mouth as well as the surrounding area.
